My Story

Maria Lizza Bowen

  • I am a Scientist and Sr. Director of Oncology Global Clinical Science with 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry. My experience includes molecular, chemistry, biochemistry, & virology laboratory studies; quality assurance in pharmaceutical manufacturing; and cancer clinical research with a focus on leadership, program management, talent management, inspection readiness, & process excellence.

  • I am also an author.

Growing up surrounded by my compassionate mother’s vast book collection and my father’s simplistically raw yet deep perspective on life, I began reading at a very young age and dedicated a significant portion of my childhood and adult life trying to understand why we’re all here. My quest for answers resulted in a large collection of books on physics, philosophy, science, art, and spirituality, which led me to acquire a different perspective on the curve balls that life has thrown my way.

  • I wrote "REFLECT" as a result of being stuck. Instead of ignoring my problems, assigning false rationalizations, or launching into attack mode, I found myself looking at things from a different angle - without blame or judgment. By digging a little deeper to understand the problems in my life, I found my way through the murky dark waters. If you're looking to find more peace in your life and take your power back, the book REFLECT is for you!

“My goal is to bring you through a journey of insights and realizations which helped me to find greater peace in this world, with hopes that it can do the same for you!”

— Maria Lizza Bowen

These are a few of my favorite things.

I hope you make time for the things that make you happy!

Here are some of mine… including my go-to books, music, hobbies, inspirations, and more!

Books.

It all started with my mom’s book collection. She and her sisters would read, exchange, and discuss their favorite books all the time. The topics of their interest included spirituality, psychology, religion, new age, healthy food, and some form of meditation or healing. I’ve kept most of her books and was inspired to continue a collection of my own - adding science, language, and many more topics. Here’s a list of a few of my favorites…

To Create.

Growing up, I would receive art supplies and sketch pads for my birthday or Christmas from one of my brothers. I would get so excited. I painted, sculpted, drew, carved, built, made jewelry, sewed, etc. I even had a chance to study art in Firenze, Italy. As I got older, I slowed down with creating ‘artwork’ because my focus changed, and, well, life happened. However, I realized (and accepted) that creativity is in everything I do… every thought I have. Just for fun, here’s a sample of some of my artwork.

Language & Travel.

I‘m fascinated with languages, especially the differences, similarities, and how people think and express themselves. A great way to dig into how a culture thinks is to examine its idioms. Dialects are also very interesting. Growing up in northeastern Pennsylvania, where ‘coal speak’ was born, I’ve grown to appreciate my roots and how my region’s dialect was formed. Nonetheless, traveling is not only a great way to learn, but you get to meet interesting characters along the way.

Quotes.

A lifetime of experience can sometimes be captured in a few words. There are instances when you come across a quote that rings true for you and helps you to put things into perspective. Sometimes, a quote can inspire you to be a better version of yourself, help you clarify what you are thinking, or help you to put a name to your feelings. Sometimes a little inspiration goes a long way. Here are a few of my favorite quotes…

Halloween.

I love Halloween. I love creating costumes. I love the smell of the crisp fall air in the evening. I love seeing everyone dressed up and having fun. I love baking spooky treats. I love Halloween decorations. I love Halloween music. I love pet costume parades. I love how excited kids get when you put candy in their buckets. I love everything about Halloween. What’s not to love? Especially when you get one day to be anything you want! Here are some past Halloween creations…
